The film is a remake of a big-budgeted Hollywood gangster epic released about a decade ago about a father and son's journey through a series of adventures.
"HMV is right now in final stages of negotiations with the American producers of that film. So I wouldn't like to reveal the title on record. But yes it's a very different and unusual take on gangsterism, "informs Lakhia.
Interestingly Lakhia did an almost frame-by-frame remake of the Denzel Washington thriller Man On Fire with the Big B three years ago without bothering with copyrights.
Says Lakhia, "Times have changed now. Warner Brothers, for example, is letting Indian filmmakers do remakes of their films while remaining co-producers on the adapted projects. I think Nikhil Advani is co-producing a desi version of Warner's Wedding Crasher directed by David Dhawan. We'd like to outright buy the remake rights for the American film that I'm planning to remake."
Earlier this week Lakhia flew down to Bangkok to narrate the script to Zayed.
Reveals Lakhia, "Actually it was work-cum-pleasure. Sanju Sir, Zayed, Akshay and Lara are all friends. They're all staying at this unbelievable paradise of a hotel called Banyan Tree in Bangkok. Zayed asked me to join them there. So here I am."
Brother's wedding over in the US, Apoorva Lakhia is all set to start two films, one of them for HMV and the other for Suniel Shetty and Ekta Kapoor.
Bangkok is the current hotbed of activity for Bollywood. The entire team of the underwater adventure film Blue has been stationed in Bangkok for two weeks.
Ajay Devgan also arrived to stay in the same hotel.
"It's great fun. And since I'm doing films with Sanju and Zayed we get to bond while discussing work, " exults Apoorva from Bangkok.
