His shot into big time had been through Zee Televison`s Sa Re Ga Ma but Sonu Nigam`s career as a singer zoomed high when he touched the high notes for all the lead actors - Hrithik, Shahrukh and even Jackie Shroff. But the 27-year old singer is peeved. Who could have rubbed him the wrong way? Do they not know that the likes of Smita Thackeray, Amitabh Bachchan, politician Amar Singh, The Tauranis of Tips Industries, internationally acclaimed music composer A. R. Rehman to name a few are his personal friends?
"Despite such people around and having a strong classical foundation, some people play dirty and find my voice unsuitable," he almost cries aloud. And who could be spearheading such a campaign against the rising star? You`ll be surprised to know -- it`s Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Apparently, two weeks before the release of his film Devdas, the song Sheeshe Se Sheesha Takraye... originally recorded in Sonu`s and Udit Narayan`s voices, was dubbed by another warbler, Vinod Kumar Rathod, erasing Sonu`s "high pitched notes" completely.
On Bhansali`s insistence. Incidentally, this was the only number in the actor-singer`s voice in the film.Nigam can`t do much to regain lost ground. But shouldn`t he save his chances of another chance to be associated with Bhansali`s next magnum opus by keeping his mouth shut?
