HASTEY HASTEY, STRANGERS, DUS KAHANIYAAN, CHODDON NAA YAAR, VICTORIA NO. 203, RAQEEB, DELHII HEIGHTS, EKLAVYA-THE ROYAL GUARD, REHGUZAR, BAS EK PAL, YUN HOTA TO KYA HOTA - It was a rather agonizing list of box office failures for Jimmy Sheirgill, in spite of the fact that he always stood out for his performances.
Especially in films like STRANGERS, EKLAVYA-THE ROYAL GUARD and BAS EK PAL, Jimmy was singled out by one and all. However, Lady Luck still was nowhere in sight even as Jimmy continued to wait for it to knock his doors.
Finally, the call came in the form of A WEDNESDAY which had a first time director Neeraj Pandey at it's helm. Add to it an unconventional theme, shoe string budget and a role which wasn't central to the film's plot.
Still, in his heart Jimmy was aware that this would be THE movie which would strike gold. Even as the film was ready for close to a year, Jimmy continued to be excited about it's release and the ecstasy was clearly visible once it went on to hit the bull's eye.
"It was great to be acknowledged so far for your performances but then box office is an important aspect as well.
I was fetching great reviews; in fact after YAHAAN, the film which got me some unanimously good reviews was A WEDNESDAY.
This is why the film becomes even more important as it has turned out to be a huge success", says Jimmy who has now promised himself that it would only be selective projects from here on.
"That's true, I have reached this stage after a while and don't want to loose it with any wrong step from here on. Each of the projects which I do from here on has to be extra special now; nothing frivolous would do", declares Jimmy.
Jimmy's next big project is JOHNNY MASTANA which unites him with his YAHAAN director Shoojit Sircar. He is seen along with Amitabh Bachchan, Sarika and Dia Mirza in the film.
"Shoojit is a man who has sensibilities of his own. He belongs to a completely different breed of directors, something which was apparent in YAHAAN as well. Even with JOHNNY MASTANA, he has surpassed all expectations. We all are eagerly waiting for March 2009 when the movie will hit the screens", signs off Jimmy. Joginder Tuteja
