But due to date problems and artistes not being comfortable about an off beat subject, Chamki had to be put on the back burner and White feather films went all out with their next bunch of announcements, namely Acid Factory, Alibaug, Pankh and The Great Indian Butterfly.
Right now Sanjay Guptas production is going from strength to strength with all these biggies and Chamki is no longer in the picture.
But Gupta is very gung ho about Chamki being revived and has sent his best wishes to Mr Benegal. Recently there were reports that Chamki didn't happen because Priyanka refused the film and Urmila Matondkar the second choice had monetary issues. But White feather sets the record straight on all allegations. Gautam Kohli, spokesperson of White feather Films and Head of Marketing clarifies.
"First of all we are very pleased that Chamki is being revived. Mr Gupta has always believed in the script and has immense respect for Mr Benegal and his work and we regret that we couldn't make the film.
Sheetal Talwar was the producer of the film earlier. We had approached Priyanka Chopra for the role of Chamki but after having read it, she refused because she felt the character was extremely negative and not something she wanted to do at that point of time in her career.
As far as Urmila Matondkar is concerned, she was never approached by Mr Gupta so the question of monetary issues is falsely reported. Mr Gupta is pleased that Chamki is taking off & expresses his best wishes.''
