Producer Kavita Munjal and Anjalika Mathur`s Leela, a film by Somnath Sen, is based on the South Asian-American experience. The film is a true reflection of how the South Asian-American community is beginning to emerge, blend, and influence the mainstream American culture in its own exquisite ways. Ghazal maestro Jagjit Singh and Shantanu Moitra render melody to the lyrics of Gulzar and Abbas Tyrewala, Nida Fazli. The voices are rendered by Jagjit Singh, Shubha Mudgal,Jaspinder Narula, Falguni Pathak, K K, Dev Choudhary, Karsan Sagathia, spread over eight tracks in the album.
The numbers Jaag Ke Kati, Tere Khayal Ki, Dhuan Utha Hai are sung by Jagjit Singh on the soulful lyrics of Gulzar. The music is slow romantic and close to one`s in Jagjit Sings`s Gazal albums. He has also rendered his voice in Jab Se Kareeb Ho Ke Chale in two parts on lyrics by yet another master Nida Fazli. The music is sweet here too.
One song - Champai Dhoop Ke Saye is rendered by Shubha Mudgal on lyrics by Gulzar. The song is very good and is a very typical Shubha Mudgal song. Her fans would definitely love this one. Also a song is sung by Jaspinder Narula. She is specially picked in for that Punjabi feel for this Punjabi kinda song Mavan Te Dhiyan, which is slow in the beginning and picks up slowly. The song is a traditional Punjabi folklore.
And last but not the least, there is this typical gujju song Kanha Teri Bansuri too. It might be right time for this song to be popular since navratri is nearing and the queen of navratri - Falguni Pathak, has rendered her voice together with K K, Dev Choudhary and Karsan Sagathia. The lyrics for this gujju song is penned by Abbas Tyrewala. All in all a very beautiful soft album for a typical audience. It has no pacy numbers, obviously, since the story does not seem to have that flavour. It also looks like a Jagjit Singh album.
