Till about last weekend, DOSTANA was supposed to be the sole release of the weekend of 14th November. The date was announced quite some back and it had even resulted in Madhur Bhandarkar pre-poning the
release of Fashion so that two Priyanka Chopra films don't clash with each other.
However, seems like DOSTANA would eventually have company, albeit not really threatening enough, as two films that were earlier slated to arrive on 7th November have postponed their plans by a week. We are
talking about Dasvidaniya and DESH DROHI, both of which would now be hitting the screens on 14th November.
DASIVIDANIYA is a film mainly targeted at multiplex audience and is supposed to be a poignant tale of a protagonist (Vinay Pathak) who has only three months to live and makes his final To-Do list before he leaves
this word. Also starring Neha Dhupia, the film is targeted at niche audience and won't quite come in the way of DOSTANA collections.
On the other hand DESH DROHI is a kind of film that deserves to be released fast so that it goes away in quick time too.
Though the makers are spending quite some moolah in promoting the film, DESH
DROHI is mainly aimed at the single screen audiences and has it's market, if at all, in the interiors of the country rather than big cities and metros. The film has close to a dozen odd baddies and marks the acting
debut of lead hero Kamaal Khan who is also the producer of the film.
Surprisingly, the film sees Gracy Singh as the heroine who had started her career as a main lead with actors like Aamir Khan (LAGAAN),
Sanjay Dutt (MUNNABHAI MBBS), Ajay Devgan (GANGAAJAL) and Anil Kapoor (ARMAAN).
Though it is quite obvious that which of the three films would ultimately rake in big moolah, one can't discount the critical acclaim and some sustained audience that Dasvidaniya may end up seeing for itself.
Meanwhile coming together of DESH DROHI on the same day means that D-Power would indeed be striking thrice on 14th November! - Joginder Tuteja
