Ripples Entertainment who last released Yeh Tera Ghar Yeh Mera Ghar returns now with Roshni, a ‘Fatal Attraction' mystery featuring newcomer Kiran Zaveri and fresh stars Milind Soman with Bikram Saluja. All things considered Anand-Milind have surprised with a listenable soundtrack. However, in any case that was the call of the day for a film with no stars. Whether the mediocre tunes will surmount the regular and acquire the much needed hit status for this film is still very questionable, even after many listens. The soundtrack is comprised predominantly of love songs, which for a much needed change have been penned by Ibraham Ashq.
Originality in question, ‘Jaanu O Mere Jaanu' is a tad bit too familiar to some of Anu Malik's hits. While the overall feeling of the song is sad, Alka's at times nasal voice is completely ridden over the lousy typical violin orchestration and drum backdrop. Kumar Sanu, whose contributions to soundtracks lately has been slim, adds the much needed life to the song. Even Ibraham Ashq's lyrics are quite typical in the genre of romance.
‘Roshni Roshni' features very familiar use of the guitar in such a situation where we've heard it so often it doesn't need to be mentioned! While Kumar Sanu is emotive in his singing, the song is boring for those looking for something different but listenable for those looking for an entertaining romance song. The traditional yet very typical dholak is overlaid by interesting notes in "Chale Saat Phere Lekar". Another sad number sung by the reliable duo of Alka Yagnik and Hari Haran. ´Jeena Hai Terre Yaadon Mein´ is a short slow unmusical version of the title track. Nothing notable from Kumar Sanu or Anand-Milind.
"Maine Tujhe Jaan Liya" picks up the pace and provides relief from the slow dull love songs, but once again there is nothing but amore seeping through this track as well. Laced with violin orchestrations and a fast techno pace from "Mujhe Tere Jaise" (Raaz) and "Pyar Re" (Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai), Udit Narayan makes a much-needed appearance with Alka. Swift and entertaining the song is one of the better of the typical tunes on Roshni´s soundtrack. Wonder why we haven´t heard Hema Sardesai recently? Given her rare contributions to soundtracks these days you would hope that "Main To Bas Teri Hoon" would be something to look out for.
Sonu Nigam is the singer with Alka in "Sajna Harajai" which has typical music, typical lyrics- sometimes-bad ones at that- and a typical Punjabi beat. Definitely a pass. Considering that Anand-Milind have been providing bland and pointless music to soundtracks these days, Roshni is certainly a sigh of relief. And it is quite apparent that Ripples Entertainment has by far not asked for anything extremely different or creative from the composers, rather this is a more ‘safe' soundtrack. But, a step up for Anand-Milind certainly doesn't dictate that the redundant and familiar music here is anything beyond your regular songs.
