Shabana Azmi who was in Nasik for the book's release on Sunda, is in so many places at so many places at the same time, you wonder if she has an identical twin standing in for her at some events.
Just the evening before on Saturday Shabana was in Delhi on stage performing her long-running play Tumhari Amrita with Farouq Shaikh
She laughs as she recalls the evening, "I was suffering from laryngitis on Saturday. My voice was completely gone. By evening it came back a bit. But the voice was so bass I wondered if I should perform Farouq's part instead.I managed with great difficulty."
After managing well with the play in Delhi on Saturday Shabana rushed to Nasik for her mom's book's release.
"And my voice was gone again! At such an important moment. Let's face it, my mother's biography on my father Yaad Ki Rahguzar(originally in Urdu) has had a wonderfully long life.
It has been selected by fourteen universities in the USA and has had four referential readings in South Asian institutions because it rises above a personal story to encompass a socio-political milieu that's distinctly female. And my husband Javed has written a play Kaifi Aur Main based on my mother's biography."
The play has been staged any number of times with Shabana and Javed playing Kaifi and Shaukat Azmi.
And now if the buzz is to be believed a very big production house plans to make a film on Kaifi Azmi's life.
Shabana is the natural choice for her mother's part.
Confirms Shabana, "Yes, some interest has been shown in filming the book. My parents' romance was spectacular."
In Nasik the Marathi version was released on Sunday amidst a great deal of emotional reminiscences.
Says Shabana, "In Marathi my mother's book is called Kafi Aani Mee.It's been earlier translated into English and Japanese. It feels good to watch my parents find space in the literary circles in so many different languages."
