She started off her Bollywood career as a Gangster's mistress and then went on playing reel-life schizophrenic Parveen Babi in Woh Lamhe; the latest being a frustrated drug addict supermodel in Fashion.

With the kind of roles she chooses to play, Kangna Ranaut has become the 'dark heroine' of Bollywood. Sreya Basu catches up with the 21-year actor from Himachal Pradesh on love, life and controversies.

So, you have struck another hit at the box office with Fashion. Is it sheer luck or something else that makes you click every time starting from your first film?
Look, I don't believe I am born talented. But I was moulded the way I am and the entire credit goes to Anurag Basu, the director of my debut film Gangster.

He groomed me as an actor even without me realising it...I just did what he asked me to do on the sets. Only after seeing the final prints of the film I realised that the magic has been done. And now, simply the words-lights, camera, sound and action-turns me on. I have become addicted to acting.

Do you think 'the bad girl' tag worked for you?
Yeah...you may say so. But that was not a conscious decision. My characters in Gangster, Woh Lamhe, Metro and Fashion (not talking about Shaka Laka Boom Boom) is not the ones that actors are privileged to play every other day, let aside newcomers like me being offered such roles.

So there was no scope for saying 'No' to these offers. But on second thought, I think it is my nature that I dare to try things that others don't. Even at school I never wore a dress that was similar to the ones my friends had. In fact, I always experimented with my clothes and looks.

We heard that you are from a conservative family. But you have done and said quite a few bold things on screen. Don't your family object to that?
I am from a conservative family in Himachal Pradesh. And it was obvious that initially there were some objections. But now they understand that if I am taking drugs, or slapping my hero, or sleeping with my boss, it's because my character in the film needs it.

It's my job to make my characters realistic. (Pauses) You know what, you should not be asking about my parents but about my relatives in Himachal...it's their reaction that irritates!

They don't have problem with my bold scenes or dialogues, but they want me to dance, deliver dialogues and give all the details about what Amitabh, Shah Rukh, Kareena, Aishwarya and the lot do, wear, eat, et cetera...as if I am the know-all of Bollywood.

You are working on two big projects-Raaz 2 is all set to release. Can you tell us about your character in the film, and also something about Kites?
In Raaz 2 I play a supermodel again. For the first time I am doing a horror film and have Emraan Hasmi and Adhyayan Suman opposite me. Kites is a love story about how two people, who are poles apart from each other, fall in love.

Anurag Basu is directing the film for Rakesh Roshan's production house. Here I play a salsa dancer but am not the protagonist of the film. The story focuses on Hritik, but I have a significant role in the film.

Your love story with Adhyayan is the latest buzz of tinsel town. Are you two serious...
(Stops in the middle of the questions)...YES...Adhyayan and I are seeing each other and we are pretty serious about it. But of course we are not thinking of marriage right now.

We would like to know more about it...how you two met, who proposed first...et cetera.
I don't want to give the details about our relationship...it's too personal. But all I want to say is Adhyayan is the man of my dreams, he is the one whom I can depend on for life. I have seen so much sorrow in life. But Adhyayan's presence has healed the wounds.

Do you share a good relationship with Adhyayan's family, including his father Shekhar Suman?
I have not been able to spend so much time with Adhyayan's family. But as far as I know they have no problems with me. And even if they have Adhyayan knows to sort things out.

What about your much talked about relationship with actor Aditya Pancholi?
I am at a very comfortable phase of life right now and would not like to discuss my past, if you please allow me to do so.
