The modern version of Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay's classic novel Devdas is titled 'Dev D' with Abhay Deol in the lead and Kalki as Chandramukhi or Chanda and Punjabi actress Mahi Viz as Paro.
Interestingly this unconventional looking actress didn't have much idea about the legendary character of the courtesan Chadramukhi.
She's said, "I only knew she was glamorous and that she was a prostitute. Of course, I was a little intimidated... but at the same time it's an interesting and a challenging role which separates you as a person and actor. "
She might sound nervous. Then too she did end up having her share of fun on the sets.
She's said, "I was very nervous of the camera so I would not stop till the time they would say cut so the cinematographer asked me to walk out of the house and stop, but I just kept walking, cause I did not hear cut then I walked into the driveway and then on the road... and then I realized and came running back and there was no one, I went in and all of them were laughing at me. "
Well, the girl has done her bit. It's up to the audience to decide now. We just hope they won't walk into the theatres with the still confusing 'No Smoking' hangover that Anurag forced on them a little more than a year ago.
