Svelte Urmila is playing a rape victim in director Chandra Prakash Dwivedi's pre-partition drama titled Pinjar. The film, based on Amrita Pritam`s novel with the same name, explores the gradual attraction of a rape victim towards her rapist, being played by versatile Manoj Bajpai.

Probably for the first time, apni Urmila will be seen donning a simple and non-glamorous look on the big screen in the film. Pinjar, set in pre-independence Lahore, has been shot in Amritsar, Punjab, and Mumbai.

Huge sets depicting a village in pre-Independence Lahore – complete with brick-layered houses, mosques and ancient monuments – has been erected in Mumbai by 400 people working 12 hours a day for more than a month. A great portion of the film has already been shot.
