People are talking about Saathiya in glowing terms. So what`s new, you might well ask? After all, guest appearances by Shahrukh Khan and Tabu (apart from Vivek Oberoi`s class act) are sure make the film worthwhile. But for once, it isn`t Oberoi, SRK, Tabu, Mani Ratnam (it`s a remake of his Alaipuethey) or even Yash Chopra (who is marketing the film) who`re stealing the show. The real reason why the accolades are pouring in, is courtesy its lead actress, Rani Mukherjee.
All those who`ve had a sneak preview of Saathiya, swear that its not only the Bengali actress`s best, but that it`s the best performance from a female lead in recent times. Yet, when people call up the Mukherjee residence to congratulate her, all they get in return is anxious trepidation from her end.
She is neither willing to talk about her role nor gush about her experience of having done an emotionally mature role for the first time. Well, that`s Rani for you - self-effacing, matter-of fact and hardly ever over the top. That`s where true star value lies. Wait for Saathiya, to decide for yourself though.
