"Yes, I am indeed happy that the film has shaped up so well", confesses an ever energetic Sangeeth, "It was a challenge to make a film that I have always touted as 'Die Hard meeting DDLJ'. Once you make a statement like this, you have to be doubly sure to make an entertainer which truly turns out to be a right mix of action and romance."
Has he been successful in doing that? After all it has been ages since he made an action film. Also, post the success of APNA SAPNA MONEY MONEY and KYA KOOL HAIN HUM, he is known more as a film maker who knows a funny trick or two?
"This is why I wanted to move on and make some different cinema. I sincerely believe that we as a team have been able to even surpass the expectations that we had set for ourselves. I am so glad to have both Nana and Bobby to be on the same frame."
He goes on to add, "Bobby and Nana are so contrasting, both in real life and as the characters in the film, that it gives me ample opportunity to explore their different facets. Bobby is very much an on-off actor.
He could be doing anything on the sets but once the shot is ready, he transforms into a character right away. As soon as you call 'cut', he would be back to his regular self. On the other hand Nana asks a lot of questions before facing the camera."
We have learnt that Nana Patekar is palying a CBI officer and especially learnt to speak like a typical Punjabi while he was shooting in Chandigarh. In the film, Nana is trying to catch a criminal, Bobby Deol, by chasing him through Punjab. To convincingly play the part, Nana decided to learn Punjabi.
Director Sangeeth Sivan said, "We were shooting in Chandigarh when Nana took a copy of his dialogue and approached three Punjabi women who were close by.
Nana requested them to teach him to speak the Hindi dialogue in Punjabi. He then asked me if we could do the sequences in Punjabi.
I was unaware of his conversation with the Punjabi women. To my surprise, Nana suddenly laughed out loud and started mouthing his dialogue in Punjabi. He told me how he had especially learnt Punjabi for the scenes."
Nana says, "While shooting in Punjab, I had some scenes where I had to do some investigative work while interacting with people. I managed to speak fluent Punjabi, which is more about attitude rather than pronunciation.
I love Punjabis. My father too spoke fluent Punjabi as we were in the business of textile printing and he would deal with Punjabis every day."
Starring Shreya Saran as a leading lady with Chunky Pandey in a special appearance, EK - THE POWER OF ONE, which has music by Pritam and action by Peter Heins, is all set for a 27th March release.
