When Bipasha made her debut in Ajnabee she piped Kareena at the post and stole all the limelight. Bengali beauties have always hogged the limelight in Mumbai. Latest to this addition is another Bengali lass Koena Mitra. You may have noticed her in item number in Road. With a body to kill for, the model-turned-actress is confident she`ll never be short of work in tinsletown. According to Koena, a former Miss India, item songs are the aspiring starlet`s window to stardom, provided of course she has the right `assets` for the job.
"Since item numbers have any no purpose than to titillate audiences, an actress needs to be very sure about what she puts on display in that five-minute performance. What you show, and what you don`t, can make or break your career", purrs an unabashed Koena who recently set the Road on fire. And if you consider the fact that the girl with the hot, hot bod has Bollywood biggies David Dhawan, Subhash Ghai and Mahesh Manjrekar (among others) lining up outside her door, then she`s certainly got what it takes to keep the audiences coming.
With pelvic thrusts and gyrations built into the curriculum at most finishing schools that models attend, Koena feels that the art of romancing the camera is no longer the mystery it used to be. In fact she admits that the craze for item numbers is sure to attract more and more rampwalkers to the silver screen. "Indian models, including Bipasha, Malini (Sharma) and Sheetal (Malhar) could give international catwalk queens a run for their money", she gushes.
Although Koena admits that oozing oodles of oomph cannot substitute for real acting talent, she however insists that an average figure means just an average impact upon cinegoers. And there are others who back her up. "Sensuality is the key in today`s commercial cinema. So much so that an actress with a great body and only average histrionic abilities will not only survive, but also do well for herself", says Bipasha Basu, whose dare-bare Jism has reportedly pushed the boundaries just a little further.
