Vidhu Vinod Chopra had then planned the film with Shah Rukh in mind but due to date hassles Shah Rukh had refused to do the film and later Boman also had no keen interest.
"But much later when Vinod Chopra decided to do the film with Sanjay Dutt, he approached me to play the key role in the film and that time I could not refuse him." reveals Boman.
Despite having done 50 films in bollywood actor Boman Irani feels that he is still struggling to get the right kind of roles.
Having been appreciated for his roles in Kholsa Ka Ghosla or Munnabhai series the actor says that he became an actor by fluke.
"I never intended to be an actor on the silver screen. I have stage background. I was often offered roles but some how or the other I would just refuse them. I was offered Lagaan, Gaddar and other films too earlier then Ashutosh Gowarikar offered me roles in T.V.Serials too. But nothing allured me" he says.
It was my commercials that finally led me into films. I appeared in Ram Madhavani's medium budget film when I was 42 and as the film went on to become a hit it gained me some confidence. That's how I started accepting roles." Boman reveals.
Nine years down the line and Boman says that he has often represented the common man and enjoy doing it so. "All my forthcoming films will see me in such roles.
I have Peoples Pictures' 99, Leena Yadav's Teen Patti, Ravi Chopra's Banda Yeh Bindaas Hai, Shyam Benegal's Abba Ka Kuan, Studio 18's Fruit and Nut and Rajkumar Hirani's 3 Idiots coming up for release in 2009." Boman adds before signing off.
