Poor show by "Om Jai Jagdeesh"and "Dil Tumhara" at box offices does not bother the petite looking star Mehima Chaudhary. She is full of personal satisfaction at the manner in which rendition of her role has earned her praise. Never mind, the inherent prominence in the script and role of Priety Zinta, she feels that her own role and that of once raging beauty, Rekha, have definitely made a mark. Mahima, these days, is being flooded with offers from various producers indicating that slump in her career is over. Read on how she fielded questions from SantaBanta's bollywood network team:
Q: Do you cherish your days as a model?
Ans: Yes, very much. I took off as a model under the able direction of Rajiv Menon. Parsoon Pandey had teamed up with me. Rajiv, is these days a very successful film director in South and Pandey has become an international model. And, you can see me where I stand. It all began from modelling, really.
Q: How do you select films for working?
Ans: Though, I would love to go through the entire story line before I sign but the custom here in Mumbai is that a director approaches you with a broad outline of the story, which is narrated verbally. Recently, I did insist on reading the entire story before signing. I have worked 3 films for which I went through the entire story. I becomes easy to perform if the entire story is settled in your mind. Definitely, story line is what makes me decide on a movie.
Q: What are the reasons behind failure of so many films?
Ans: The industry is facing problem of scarcity of good writers. We should be looking for talented writers and the industry should take the lead to promote good writers rather than shooting on crap material. And, why shouldn't the talented writers come forward themselves to offer that is decent and widely acceptable.
Q: Is it essential for girls to sleep with producers and directors to bag films?
Ans: It all depends on the girls. If a girl wants to further her career by going to bed with producer-directors, so be it. She will then always get work through that route. But, this route is not essential. If the artist has enough talent, she will be, sooner or later, spotted and audiences will like her.
Q: Does marriage mean end of the career of a heroine?
Ans: It is not true now. Till 1980s, that used to be the unwritten principle. During those old days, heroines used to carry on with their affairs secretively and even went to the extent of marrying without letting producers and directors know about it. If ever the producers learnt about it, they used chuck out the heroine. But, look at Kajol. She succeeded to work wonders in Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gam after her marriage. That should answer your questions.
Q: When are you planning to get married?
Ans: I will surely get married. I want a large number of children in the family. Some of these children I will give birth to while others I will adopt. And, I would also continue to work in the industry after marriage too. Hold on, my marriage date would take some more time.
Q: If that is the case, won't you remain pregnant all the time?
Ans: True. But, then I will look for roles that need pregnant mothers. It would add reality to the reel story. (laughs).
