Vishal Bhardwaj has done it. His 'Kaminey' has hit the bull's eye, hence continuing cheers for Bollywood, which has now
seen fourth big money spinner in a row.
Even though the film didn't release in Mumbai and Pune, two major centers for any Bollywood movie to succeed in a
major way, 'Kaminey' has marched along strongly. In it's opening weekend itself, the film has netted 17 crores, hence
ensuring that Shahid Kapoor now has his biggest opening ever.
Same holds good for Vishal Bhardwaj too, who
now has a bona fide HIT in hands after critically acclaimed 'Omkara', 'The Blue Umbrella', 'Maqbool' and 'Makdee'.
What's working tremendously in the favor of 'Kaminey' is the fact that it's target audience, i.e. youth, is patronizing the
film in a big way. Also the film has broken the class barrier as it is working across A, B and C centers with not just
multiplexes but also single screens showing a favorable response.
Moreover, unlike number of films that open with a bang and then start going down as weekdays progress, 'Kaminey' has
been holding steady with extremely strong word-of-mouth and all around positive reviews keeping this thriller going strong
day-after-day, show-after-show!
With the film finally opening in Mumbai on Monday, there is a renewed vigor in
the film's collections, which is going to come handy to first week's collections.
Meanwhile 'Life Partner' is fighting it out at the box office and is finding patronage amongst family audiences, especially
the interiors.
With close to 7 crores coming in the first weekend, this medium budget movie has gained decent
reviews and word-of-mouth.
Considering the fact that the next big releases, 'Dil Bode Hadippa' and 'Wanted',
arrive a month from now, it is only a happy situation for this Govinda, Tusshar Kapoor and Fardeen Khan starrer that
should be able to consolidate it's place at the box office in weeks to come.
With the success of 'Kaminey' and survival of 'Life Partner', Bollywood can finally heave a sigh of relief. What seemed
like a lost cause till a couple of months back appear to be a happy scenario today. Here is keeping fingers crossed for
many more HITS coming Bollywood's way.
