There's some good news for partygoers in the capital - Bollywood actor Arjun Rampal has launched a plush lounge - LAP - which he promises will be "safe for women", but it's open exclusively for members.

"Today, if you look around at other clubs, people just come from anywhere and everywhere. They have opened thei doors for everyone. The problem with that is that female partying gangs feel uncomfortable and not at all safe. But with this constraint, I want every women who comes here to feel safe, " Rampal said at a press conference here Saturday.

"A lot of thought process has gone behind the point whether we should make it exclusive club or not. But then we decided that it would be one of those few places where like-minded people meet. Also, it would be an aspirational factor for those who can't afford to be its members right now, " he added.

Rampal has teamed up with restaurateur A.D. Singh for this venture. Located in Samrat Hotel and spread over an expanse of 17, 000 square feet, the lounge has drawn inspiration from the Victorian era matched well with Indian royal heritage paintings.

The decor too compliments the feel of that era with golden, beige and silver aristocratic sofas teamed well with a crystallized Swarovski embedded chandelier hanging elegantly from a dramatic wave-like fishscale rooftop pattern.

There are some tables that have been designed by Arjun Rampal, Gauri Khan and designer Tarun Tahiliani and Rohit Bal.

It was during a vacation in Goa that Rampal and Singh met, exchanged ideas and conceptualised the whole plan.

Describing the restaurant as a haven for female partygoers, Rampal insists that this is the place where every women would feel safe.

"I love women and I want all of them to feel safe in my lap (restaurant), " Rampal jokingly said.

Rampal also said the place will be a delight for music lovers.

"I love music and let me assure you that this place would play some of the finest music in town. We will also encourage new DJ's to play for us. The place has more to it then about people coming and partying. It is the perfect place to chill out after a hard day's work, " Rampal maintained.
