Gangaajal is another addition to the list of the movies that highlight corruption and feudalism in Bihar. Directed by the multiple award-winning film-maker Prakash Jha, the film is set in the backdrop of imaginary town Tejpur situated at the banks of Ganga.
Amit Kumar (Ajay Devgan) is the new Superintendent of Police in Tejpur which boasts of it's uncrowned emperor, Sadhu Yadav, his hedonistic son Sundar, the self-righteous journalist Rabidas. The police force there is incorrigibly corrupt and full of people like beedi-smoking Bhurelal.
Amit rejuvenates the spirits of the people who are terrorised by Sadhu Yadav. The transition starts from Bachcha Yadav, the policeman who is inspired by Amit and his honesty. But it's not easy for the poor people to break free from the clutches of terror that breeds in them.
The uprising is in the offing and people seek justice by themselves. In sheer frustration, people become reckless and revengeful. The line of sanity is blurred and Amit finds it hard to endorse their way of seeking justice. The surrounding events take toll on their marriage and Amit withdraws from his sensitive wife Anuradha (Gracy Singh). What will happen next?
Apart from the leading cast, film also features Mohan Agashe, Ayub Khan, Mukesh Tiwari, Mohan Joshi, Yashpal Sharma, Akhilendra Mishra, Anoop Soni and others.
