They were competing with ‘talents' from all walks of life – singers, athletes doing Malkham, Bhangra groups and even Qawwals! But their breathtaking performance– the Krishna Dance– won them a million hearts- and votes too!
The jury– comprising of the very talented and acclaimed director Shekhar Kapoor, actor par excellence Kirron Kher and the glamorous Sonali Bendre, had tears in their eyes and gave a standing ovation to their heart-rending performance.
As heart-rending as their performance, so is the story of this dance group. Founded by Krishna Mohan in a small village – 12 kilometers away from Behrampur in Orissa– this group comprises of young boys and men who are daily wage laborers working in brick making plants and farms.
Krishna Mohan, who is a dance teacher, reminisces, "Our dance group was founded on the basis of passion and sincerity.
All of us used to be at our jobs through the day –and our jobs were physically intensive in nature, and then we would meet at Kali Mandir in the night to practice our dance. People thought we were mad. Our families thought we were wasting our time. But deep down we were all pursuing what we loved doing. Dancing gave a meaning to our otherwise aimless life."
Prince Dance Group has performed in over 50 shows –which include corporate clients like ICICI, ITC, and Wills Lifestyle Fashion Show and Rohit Bal. They currently do between 15-20 show a month.
