The Fox Searchlight release's revised opening weekend figure for February 12-14 now stands at $1, 939, 000, still a new all-time record for a Hindi film beating the $1, 764, 131 of 2007's "Om Shanti Om."
Starring Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, MNIK averaged a stellar $16, 158 from 120 theaters across the United States and Canada over three days. Theatres across the country have reported sold-out shows and have had to turn moviegoers away.
"My Name Is Khan" is estimated to gross $336, 000 on Monday, Presidents' Day, bringing the estimated four-day opening weekend figure to $2, 275, 000.
This makes the Karan Johar film the fastest Hindi film ever to break the $2, 000, 000 mark beating the previous record of 5 days set in December by "3 Idiots" which grossed $2, 149, 227 in its five-day opening over the Christmas holiday weekend.
MNIK also generated the highest per-theatre average of any film in North American release this weekend.
