After winning NDTV Imagine's reality show Rahul Dulhaniya Le Jayega which was based on the lines of American game show The Bachelor, Dimpy, the 21-year-old model-actor was asked her hand in marriage by Rahul. The couple got married on March 7 in true Bengali style on the show itself.
On Friday, around 300 guests were invited to the wedding reception and was attended by various fashion personalities of the city including designers, models and photographers.
Dimpy who has done two Bengali serials and cameos in a few Bengali films was not in the 'mood' to get married when she entered the reality show, but later she changed her mind, said a close family member.
Guests were treated to an extensive menu of primarily Bengali delicacies and some east Asian cuisines.
Saibal Ganguly, Dimpy's father said, "On a scale of one to hundred I think I am hundred percent happy seeing that my daughter is so happy. That's what all parents want don't they?"
"Yes, there was a concern about our families' economic and social disparity, but when I met Rahul's mother she seemed to be a very firmly rooted and down-to-earth person. And Rahul himself is very mature. So I had no qualms about them tying the knot" he added.
He said that indeed there have a been a lot of allegations and a lot has been said about Rahul's background but he feels that whatever Rahul was doing was due to some sort of depression, probably that of losing his father.
"Rahul is a very intelligent boy. He's become way more mature and responsible, I think I am proud to have a son-in -law like him" said Ganguly.
Asked about her reactions, Dimpy's mother Sushmita said: "What can I say? As a mother I am just so contented to see my daughter this happy."
Dimpy's friends, who were all too very excited to be at the occasion since it was the first time after the show that they were meeting her, said they were very happy for their friend. But on being asked if they would like a wedding on reality television, they backed out.
The couple who just returned from a honeymoon in the Maldives said they were very thrilled to be in the city and to meet their friends and relatives.
On reaching the city, the first outing they had was a boat ride in Babughat, one of Dimpy's favourite locations in the city.
Dimpy, who wore a red sari by Tarun Tahiliani said, "It's like a fairy tale. Very hard to believe but feels so very wonderful."
"When I look at Rahul, what I see is someone who is very compatible to me, someone who understands me really well and is very caring."
"I am not a very expressive person; as in I am not very comfortable with expressing my emotions. I need someone who can catch me halfway in the process", she laughingly said.
Though he didn't get to taste any Bengali delicacy made by his wife yet, Rahul said "On the show, Dimpy had told me she knew nothing about doing ghar ka kaam (household works); but later I found out that she was actually pretty good at all that."
"Life has become much better, more stable and beautiful. I feel I have become more responsible than I used to be. And it feels lovely to be Bangal ka jamai (Bangal's son-in-law)" he said.
Dimpy, who is doing a Bachelor's degree in English, will continue her studies and her modelling career.
"One that caught me off-guard about Rahul is that he wakes up really early. No matter how late he sleeps he is always up early and brings me tea", she giggled. "I think that's really sweet."
Rahul, who is looking to contest for the 2014 general elections, said he doesn't have any immediate plans for the future and wants to give time to his family.
