Even as old favourite Karan Johar is yet to convince her to make a comeback after motherhood in his next film, Kajol has been approached by filmmaker Ravi Chopra.
Fresh from the success of his "Baghban", Chopra has apparently asked Kajol to play the lead in his next directorial undertaking "Babul".And guess who would be Kajol's leading man in "Babul"? None other than Amitabh Bachchan! Unusual, to say the least.
If all goes well, he and Kajol will be paired in a drama about a father-in-law and daughter-in-law whose remarriage he takes upon himself after his son dies.
It's a powerful subject and Kajol is the filmmakers' first choice. She has read the script. Though she has some reservations she's likely to give her consent, sources say.
If so, this would be Bachchan's second film within a year where he's paired in a very unique and unusual combination. In Sanjay Leela Bhansali's "Black", he has Rani Mukhjerjee as a co-star. Evidently, filmmakers are now willing to break the conventional romantic mould of the lead pair to feature the mega star in unusual plots and permutations.
Shrugs Bachchan: "I don't know if that's true. But yes, I'm very excited about 'Babul'. One of the reasons being Salman Khan who plays my son again (after 'Baghban')."
In "Baghban", Bachchan and Salman as his foster son had got along famously. In fact, Chopra intends to cast them together in another film whose script is ready.
Incidentally, another project that Chopra is planning to make is an Indian version of the Clint Eastwood-Meryl Streep romance "The Bridges Of Madison County", again with Bachchan in the lead.
