Though there has been no official announcement about the release being delayed, the Bihar City Civil Court has ordered a stay on the release of Kites release till May 24, when it will hear the arguments in a copyright case filed against the Roshans.
The Roshans are currently involved in a case filed by Laxmi Prasad of Sunbeam Holdings. Prasad has alleged that Rakesh Roshan was supposed to pay approximately Rs 5 crore for the copyright of action scenes, but he has not done so.
Copyright infringement has been plaguing the film industry often in the past few months. First, Chetan Bhagat claimed that the makers of 3 idiots had not given him credit even though their film was 'inspired' from his book, Five Point Someone.
Then the sons of Prakash Mehra filed a suit against the makers of Housefull for remixing the song 'Apni Toh Jaise Taise' without taking their permission even though they had the copyright to it. Housefull producer Sajid Nadiadwala had believed that the rights were with Saregama and had taken their permission.
Meanwhile, the Roshans are also wondering if their premiere scheduled for May 16 at Times Square in New York City will go ahead as planned, especially since security has been heightened after the bomb scare.
