Model-turned-actress Preeti Jain, who has alleged in a police complaint that she was sexually exploited by film director Madhur Bhandarkar for nearly three years on the promise of giving film roles, on Friday said she had enough evidence to prove that the two knew each other well.
Reacting to the director's statement to a television channel that he did not know her, Jain said, "the statement is funny and Bhandarkar cannot get away with what he did, so easily".
"I have cell phone bills, residence documents to prove my association with Bhandarkar", she further added.
She warned that the director cannot 'manipulate' things and expressed hope that he would be brought to book by law soon. The model also expressed satisfaction at the way investigations by police in the case was proceeding.
Jain created flutter in the tinsel town when she lodged a complaint against Bhandarkar on Thursday, charging him of rape and threatening to kill her.
She alleged that after doing some films since 1999, she came in contact with Bhandarkar who assured to give her roles in his films and later forced her into a sexual relationship. The director even promised to marry her but did not keep the promise, the model alleged.
Meanwhile, the director continues to remain in hiding although police said they made several rounds of his residence in suburban Khar and the sets of his ongoing films.
The director was also not available for comment as his mobile was switched off.
Although remaining unreachable for Mumbai police throughout the day on Thursday, Bhandarkar did give an interivew to a TV channel in the afternoon.
The director of acclaimed films 'Chandni Bar' and 'Satta', rejected Preeti's claims stating that it was a mere 'publicity stunt' and he did not know her. Bhandarkar claimed that he received several requests for roles but could not oblige all.
DCP Bipin Kumar Singh said on Friday that Bhandarkar could not be traced although several parties have been sent to different places to find him.
DCP Singh also said that he did not have information if Bhandarkar has applied for anticipatory bail.
"Right now we are concentrating on tracing the director", he added.
