Actress Kareena Kapoor likes glamorous roles but prefers playing unconventional, unglamorous characters as they are more challenging.

Shortly after arriving here for a live show Saturday with singers Kumar Sanu and Alka Yagnik and actor Chunkey Panday, Kareena said: "I like to take on unusual roles because my first film, 'Refugee', was an unconventional film.

"There was also 'Ashoka', 'Chameli', and this year you will also see me in very different characters in my next films."

When told that she looks glamorous even while playing unglamorous roles, Kareena says, "I guess when you have a star persona, everyone identifies her by saying she is going to be glamorous no matter what."

"I think there are so many people trying to be glamorous and I'm glad I have this talent in me. It's something that I don't want to let go off. I definitely don't want to become an unglamorous actress. I'm proud to be a glamorous actress."

But Kapoor conceded that she liked the unglamorous roles more.

"The glamorous roles are very easy to do. I just have to look good and blow-dry my hair and come out looking clean and everybody likes it. But an unglamorous movie role is definitely much more hard work."

Kareena said she was very pleased that she could see her elder sister Karisma, now married and living in Delhi, at least 15 days every month because the latter had to work in Mumbai on her Sahara TV serial "Karisma".

"She shoots for 15 to 20 days a month and has to come to Mumbai - she has no choice, even if she doesn't want to!

"Above all, I don't think that distance should cause a rift between blood relations or for that matter any kind of relationship."

Kareena also likes this South African city. "I have shot for a forthcoming film at Sun City and just love the place."
