"The post-mortem report has confirmed that she committed suicide by hanging herself. We are still investigating the motives which could have led her to take the extreme step, " Additional Police Commissioner (West) Amitabh Gupta told.
Gupta said Viveka's friends, associates, neighbours and other eyewitnesses were being questioned to unravel the mystery behind the suicide of the 37-year-old model.
"We are confident of getting at the truth very soon, " he said.
Shooting to fame in the mid-1990s with her Kamasutra condom ads, Viveka was found hanging from the ceiling fan of her living room by her neighbours in Continental Apartments, Bandra West, Friday night.
Suspecting a gas leak, some neighbours rang the doorbell outside her flat but got no response.
They alerted the fire brigade and police, who later found her body dangling from the ceiling fan.
According to people connected with Mumbai's glamour industry, Viveka was in a state of depression after allegedly breaking up with her boyfriend recently.
The Khar Police seized her mobile phone, a laptop, a diary and other articles which could lead them to the motives behind her suicide.
Viveka's family members are expected to arrive in Mumbai Saturday from Mauritius to take charge of her body. Viveka acted in Hindi movie "Ye Kaisi Mohabbat Hai", which flopped. She also tried to make a career in the south Indian film industry but with no luck.
She was seen on and off on the ramp at various fashion events in recent times. Her friend, fashion designer Rohit Verma, was planning to commission her for a fashion assignment next month.
