IHLS is a Tribute, Not A Parody: Sonam Kapoor

I Hate Luv Storys has released and opened to a very good response all over. This also means that Sonam Kapoor now has a definite hit up her sleeves more than two years after making her debut with Saawariya and following it up with Delhi 6.

Now that this Punit Malhotra directed film had made an impact amongst the youth, one can't help but ask Sonam whether IHLS intended to break the cliché of conventional love stories?

I Hate Luv Storys was always meant to be a simple film told in a simple way. The film is told from Imran's perspective because he hates the way love stories, as seen in movies, are believed to be. On the other hand, I am someone who is just the opposite. I love the very idea of love stories. It is the matter of opposites attracting each other', says Sonam.

But then after watching the film, one can pretty much say that IHLS doesn't quite deviate from the conventional route of how love stories are being looked at.

"See, IHLS is a conventional love story told in an unconventional fashion. In any case, there are just six stories in the world. So it all depends upon how a 'sutradhar' can express it. Here the 'sutradhar' is Punit (Malhotra) and he has looked at every scene in a different way. The film is said as per his vision and in a simple way", responds Sonam.

One can also see that this Karan Johar film has got quite a few self parody elements woven into the narrative. Threads and clichés from the likes of Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and even Dil Chahta Hai are being picked. Seems like there was a lot of fun at the expense of these films!

"I don't think it would be right to call I Hate Luv Storys as a self parody of sorts", smiles Sonam, 'In a way the film is a tribute to these films.

Punit has been an assistant to Karan on films like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai to Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna. He too understands that at the end of it all, there is love which prevails. Things do work out eventually and all you have to do is believe in stories like these.

Kitna bhi hum keh lein ki we are living in a modern world, filmy love stories do happen to us all. Also, in the corner of the heart, each of us does hope and wish for that to happen."
