Akshay Kumar took a whirlwind tour of religious shrines while in Nagpur. The actor was in the city on Saturday on a promotional trip to publicise his next release, Ashtavinayak's Khatta Meetha.
The source informs, "Akshay was to meet the media at a theatre in Nagpur but he went off without telling anybody as the media would have followed him to the religious spots and Akshay didn't want that.
When he prays Akshay likes to do it silently without fuss. Akshay hates drawing attention to the fact that loves visiting sacred religious places. He didn't take any security as he didn't want to draw attention to himself - covered his head with a cap and went almost incognito."
Mera wala list
Says a source from Ashtavinayak, "Akshay is a very religious person but hates using religion for publicity. When he heard we were going to Nagpur, he quietly made his own plans and drew up a list of religious places he wanted to visit while there. He made his own plans and quietly disappeared to visit these places."
Akki visited Deekshabhoomi (a sacred Buddhist monument where Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar was converted), Taj Bagh (the tomb and shrine of Hazrat Tajuddin Baba), Ganesh Tekdi (a 25-year old Ganpati temple) and a gurudwara - all in the span of two hours.
Akshay, who plays the common man and a road contractor in Khattha Meetha particularly wanted to visit the Deekhshabhoomi. "He even did a special puja there. The actor performed puja at the other temples as well. He also gave a chadar at Hazrat Tajuddin Baba's tomb."
