It is a foregone conclusion that Khatta Meetha will open well at the box office. In fact, this has been a constant phenomenon for Akshay Kumar and though his earlier effort De Dana Dan with Priydarshan did have to
settle down for an average status after a very good start, one does expects the "jodi' to fetch better returns this time around.
The promos have been good from the very beginning and though a blockbuster
outcome isn't quite expected, Khatta Meetha is the kind of film that is safe at the box office from the very first day.
There have been murmurs that the film in entirety is not the kind of laugh-fest that the promos indicate.
However, since Khatta Meetha is not one of those films that are mounted at a budget of 40–50–60
crores, even a 70 percent opening (which is on the cards) and a sustained run over the weekend should ensure that the investors get into a green zone pretty quickly.
Also, because it has Akshay Kumar
playing a Maharashtrian, Khatta Meetha should fare best in Maharashtra.
Absence of a chartbuster song as well as a biggie appeal means that the film won't quite beat the opening record of Akshay Kumar's last release Housefull. Still, due to the very fact that this is a solo release; Khatta
Meetha should hang on well and gain good moolah for itself.
A word of caution though – next Friday sees the release of Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai and this much hyped film is bound to attract a lot of footfalls on its arrival. This means that it is the current week when Khatta
Meetha would have to gain maximum moolah.
