This was one performance with a difference. Shaan belted out some great numbers, and so did
Sophia. Salman walked the ramp while children infected with the AIDS virus did their bit to keep the
audience enthralled.
The Walk for Life charity event at the Leela Penta Hotel here over the weekend was held to raise funds
for the NGO, Committed Communities Development Trust (CCDT).
As singer Shaan and the sexy Sophia crooned their numbers, HIV-infected children trained by
Shiamak Davar's School of Dance gave a performance. The children, who belong to the CCDT walked
alongside actor Salman Khan and Sophia. Salman later called other celebrities like Neha Dhupia, Aditi
Gowitrikar, Amrita Arora, Mallaika Khan, Sohail Khan and Bikram Saluja.
"We had all the celebrities performing free for this event as well as stars from the movie 'Phir Milenge' -
Salman Khan, Shilpa Shetty and director Revathy. More than 500 top celebrities are supporting them
worldwide, and we at Percept and Sahara are supporting the attempt by signing Bollywood stars to
support the good cause," said Shailendra Singh of Percept.
The evening also witnessed an auction to raise funds for charity. The bids came but it seemed as if
Salman Khan and his gang were the only ones there to bid. Biggies like Bharat Shah walked out even
before the auction programme started.
Witty auctioneer Cyrus Broacha kept the audience in splits throughout.
Walk for Life has been partnered by ING Vysya Life Insurance, Hero Honda and Oakley. It is
supported by "Phir Milenge", UNAIDS and MTV. Sahara Manoranjan would be airing the event on their
channel. The proceeds from the event will go towards the NGO.
