This is the first project of Frieda after debuting in the Academy Award winning movie Slumdog Millionaire. Oscar nominated director Julian Schnabel has directed the movie, where Frieda plays the title role of Miral, who is a Palestinian orphan. The movie is adapted from the book of the Italo-Palestinian author Rula Jebreal.
A press statement informed us that 22 films are competing for the esteemed 'Golden Lion trophy' awrad at the 68th edition of the Venice Film festival.
The story in the book is about Hind Husseini, the woman who opened the 'Dar Al-Tifl' orphanage in Jerusalem following the 1948 partition of Palestine which gave birth to the state of Israel.
Freida will be seen as a teenaged Miral, who a joins the struggle after seeing the effects of Israeli campaigns. Her co-star Omar Metwally plays an Israeli activist. The trailer of the movie was released last month.
The Venice festival will be held from September 1 to 11.
