Okay... we are copycats. But definitely not the good ones and Director Revathy proves it beyond doubt in her latest film 'Phir Milenege'.
Despite her noble attempt to show the maltreatment meted out to the AIDS patients, the veteran actress fails to evoke the same sympathy, 'Philadelphia' did 11 years back.
The basic problem with the film is that it sees the fatal disease only with the 1993; Tom Hanks, Denzel Washington starrer blinkers and completely overlooks the progress made by science in all these years.
Revathy also brings in the romance to make heavy subject like HIV/AIDS awareness, palatable to the Indian audience but falters mid way.
Phir Milenege is out an out Shilpa Shetty film, who sheds her vanity box to deliver the best performance of her life as Tamanna Sahani, an advertising professional in love with Rohit Manchanda (Salman Khan).
Her life comes to a screeching halt when she is tested HIV+. Tamanna loses her job as well as her love. Her only glimmer of hope is Tarun Anand (Abhishek Bachchan) an upcoming lawyer, who picks up the gauntlet to bring justice to the beleaguered girl.
The courtroom drama follows the maudlin tale but hardly makes an effective impact like Washington's plea for justice.
Salman, in his fleeting appearance, does make his presence felt. While Abhishek as a gangly lawyer delivers a convincing performance, it's Shilpa Shetty, who evetually gets the crown. Music of the film is soothing and doesn't mar the flow of the film.
All in all Phir Milenge is half-baked experiment which flip flops between being an issue-based film and a courtroom drama.
My message to the director: "Phir Milenge, Revathy!"
