Leading lady Aishwarya began proceedings by thanking the many people involved in the production, which has been in the making for over two years.
"Robot is really special for the entire team, and we have all worked so hard on. It is definitely going to be a landmark for the Indian film industry, " the actress revealed Thursday evening.
"A lot of effects have gone into it and a lot of unbelievable stunts. To work with Shankar and the superstar Mr. Rajnikanth as a team on this film is incredible."'
She also acknowledged the work of Manish Malhotra for his costume design and the music of AR Rahman in creating "a rocking album that we had a blast performing to."
The 36-year-old explained how Robot is different to some of her more recent projects, in terms of the genre of the film and her character performance.
Aishwarya explained: "This is a full-on commercial movie. One that as an actor I had a blast doing, lots of songs and dances that I haven't done in a long time, I always do these getting into the skin of the character kind of roles, so this was a full-on entertaining trip, one hell of a journey, and I'm sure you'll enjoy the ride viewing it."
Introductions over, the original plan may have been to then screen the film, but the audience wanted at least a few words from Abhishek.
The actor duly stepped forward to complement his wife and her latest production: "This is entirely her night, so I am very happy to be for once the supporting male behind the ever gracious wife, " spoke a proud Abhishek.
"They always say behind a successful man is a woman, today I think the man should take a back seat and I'm here today to represent those husbands."
"It's a wonderful film, it's huge, it's entertaining, and everything that Indian cinema stands for, " he added.
