The actor has lent his voice for Raavan in Ketan Mehta's animation film Ramayana The Epic, directed by Chetan Desai.
"It is a challenge to create the aura of Raavan especially for today's generation.
We grew up reading Amar Chitra Katha but today's youngsters only want to see and hear, they don't want to read! Raavan has to have a voice that can match his stature, " said Ashutosh.
Ashutosh has seen Mani Ratnam's Raavan with Abhishek Bachchan but feels the filmmaker should approach the subject yet again. "He needs to revisit it with me to know what Ramayana's most known person was all about."
He adds, "Because there was a Raavan, there was Ram. Wherever you go in the world there may be hundreds of crossroads, but at every road you can either go left or right.
Ram took the right path while Raavan did not. Like for every question there is a yes and no.
Ram always said yes, while Raavan would always resorte to a no. As a result both created their unique places. But if there was no Raavan, there would have been no Ram."
In the animation flick, Raavan is depicted with his 10 heads not horizontally but atop each other.
"This has been the interpretation of the makers. When you feel you are a master of something, you get an ego. And for most people the bigger they grow, so does the ego. This has been done to create that effect."
Ashutosh has essayed the villain in movies like Sangharsh and Dushman, but he feels this is his best performance so far. "Raavan had four kinds of power money, knowledge, muscle and mass.
All this can come across when you have a voice to match. And I have been blessed with a good voice. Perhaps that's the reason I was approached to do the voiceover." He waits to play the role of Raavan in a film as well.
