"Alternative" star Rahul Bose is going back to his roots with his first Bengali film to be directed by Buddhadeb Dasgupta and produced by Jhamu Sugandh.

While his first truly international directorial project is on the verge of taking off, the famished actor has been searching for pastures other than Hindi for creative fulfilment.

Keeping this in mind, Rahul agreed to Dasgupta's film -- an emotional story about a father and son with Rahul playing the son and Mithun Chakraborty, who frequently goes back to his native state to do Bengali films, pencilled in to play the father.

Dasgupta and Sugandh were supposed to get together for a film starring Madhuri Dixit but the project was put on hold with the actress expecting a baby.

Interestingly, another eminent Bengali filmmaker, Rituparno Ghosh, is also all set to make a father-son film with Bollywood actors Amitabh and Abhishek Bachchan.

There seems to be a massive exodus of Bengali filmmakers towards Bollywood stars.

While Dasgupta is all set to direct Rahul and Mithun, Goutam Ghose recently directed Tabu in the sequel to Satyajit Ray's "Aranyer Din Ratri".

After "Chokher Bali" with Aishwarya Rai, Rituparno Ghosh has recently completed "Raincoat" with Ajay Devgan and Aishwarya Rai and "Antar Mahal" with Jackie Shroff and Abhishek Bachchan.

Another Bengali director Aparna Sen is in the process of putting together her first Hindi film with major Bollywood stars.

Explains Rituparno Ghosh: "I don't really see Bengali filmmakers' movement towards Bollywood stars as an exodus. These are very gifted, charismatic and glamorous stars. Why should we not use them just to prove our regional allegiance? It's time we stopped looking at cinema in a narrow provincial perspective. By reaching out towards national stars, Bengali filmmakers are taking a step towards globalisation."
