Karan Johar was offered a part in Vishal Bhardwaj's Saat Khoon Maaf. The character was that of a wife-bashing sex maniac! And he said a firm no. Eventually, Irrfan Khan landed up essaying the role.
After roping in writer-director Amole Gupte in his earlier project Kaminey, Vishal was keen to cast KJo to essay one of the seven husbands of Priyanka Chopra in the movie.
Amole was seen as a villain in Kaminey and Vishal thought having Karan as a wife basher would make for some unusual casting and attract attention.

Though Vishal did not contact KJo directly, he had expressed his desire to PC. Says a source, "Vishal requested his heroine to put in a word. She promptly did."
Adds the source, "As soon as Karan heard about the casting offer, he was mighty amused initially. But then wondered how on earth he could essay a wife beater!"
As a result, Vishal had to do a rethink and cast Irrfan instead.
Says KJo, "From what angle do I look like a wife-beater? And how could I enact a scene making love to Priyanka Chopra! And that too as a sex maniac! There is no way I could do this."
