A hurt and humiliated Onir, a Hindi film director, said he was in consultation with lawyers on Saturday after having decided to file a defamation suit against wannabe actor Yuvraj Parashar.
Parashar, a 28 year-old actor from Agra, who featured in Dunno Y...Na Jaane Kyun, his first Hindi film, went to press a few days ago, alleging sexual abuse by the critically-acclaimed director.
"I am filing for defamation. I have lost all faith in promoting new talent. If this is what you get for trying to help a newcomer, I won't lend a helping hand, " said Onir.
Parashar had earlier claimed that he went over to Onir's Versova residence on Tuesday night after the director had agreed to watch Parashar's debut performance. Onir got Parashar drunk before coercing him to move to the bedroom and leaving him with more than just a bite mark on his chest.
"Whatever happened that night was non-coercive. There was no pressure. I've never hidden the fact that I am gay. But I have a reputation. I don't deny inviting Yuvraj home, but the physical intimacy arose out of mutual consent, " Onir had said in response to Parashar's allegations.
Parashar, who claims of having been too weak to protest or leave since he was sozzled, says, "He can say what he likes. What power does he have? Is he a Yash Chopra or a Sanjay Leela Bhansali to help me with my career? He can sue me but he can't change the truth. Because I played a gay character in my first film doesn't making me gay."
Parashar says the ordeal went on for over an hour. Ironically, he was keen that Onir watch his film till the very end.
"I thought he'd be repentant. Let him take legal action, " says the newcomer, who claims his parents are aghast at the media reports. "They were horrified I was playing a gay character in Dunno Y... Now, they insist I return home." Onir has decided to garner support from members of the gay community. Approaching gay rights activist Ashok Row Kavi is on his agenda.
