Sanjay Dutt's nephew, Nilesh Sahay, is all set to make his debut in Ganesh Acharya's Angels.
Dismissing rumours of a rift within the Dutt clan, Sanju's wife Manaayata and sisters Namrata Gaurav and Priya Dutt Roncon were present at the music launch last night.
Says a source close to Dutt, "Sanju is shooting for Dhamaal in Lonavla and was unable to attend the event but all the ladies of the Dutt khandaan showed up at the music launch of Angels to offer the young man emotional support."
Sanju says, "I'm very happy that my nephew is making his debut in Ganesh's Angels. He is a hard working and sincere boy and my family and I wish him all the best."
The rishta
Nilesh is yesteryear actress Zahida's son. Zahida's father and Dutt's mom Nargis were siblings.
Sahay says, "Sanju maama is my mom's first cousin. I was in Bandra yesterday but when I found out that he couldn't come to my music launch, I drove down all the way to Lonavla to meet him and get his blessings.
My family has always supported me. Maama is my idol and a role model in every possible way. In fact, he even got me the information on the New York University where I did my advanced course in filmmaking and acting."
The debutant says he wanted to make it on his own and that's why he never asked Sanju to help him with his career.
"It'd be sad if my family had to bail me out in my debut film. When someone outside your family wants to launch you, that's when you know you are wanted for yourself.
It felt good that my entire family came last night to support and bless me."
Says Nilesh, "I was offered a lot of films but I was waiting for the right one. I chose Angels as my debut because the passion of the director drew me.
I come from a copywriting background and didn't want to act in the usual chocolate boy love story flick. In Angels, the relationship is more buddy-like than standard romance fare.
The girl suffers from cerebral palsy and can't speak at all while I can't stop talking."
