Zee has called off its distribution venture with Rajshri after reportedly suffering huge losses in all the films it released.
Eight films were released jointly, Including "Lakshya", "Yuva" and Boney Kapoor's "Kyon Ho Gaya Na". As part of the tie-up, Zee would procure the films and Rajshri use its distribution expertise to release them, reports Bollywood Trade.
The venture had taken off on an ambitious note with "Woh Tera Naam Tha" in January.
According to Nittin Keni, CEO, film production and exhibition in Zee, the final blow was the failure of "Kyon Ho Gaya Na".
"We decided after the film that we could not afford to take any more losses. The whole of last year was very bad for us in the distribution business."
Zee is now looking at distribution of films overseas. Recently it released "Mujhse Shaadi Karogi", for which the business was fairly satisfying, according to Keni.
Keni said he has disassociated himself from "Indira Gandhi", the film for which he had signed Manisha to play the title role.
"I am not sure whether the trust that had been set up for the film is going ahead with it. But I have disassociated myself from it," Keni said.
