To be or not to be Ali. This is Uday Chopra's dilemma ever since Dhoom 3 was announced.
The actor is best or rather only remembered for his outing in his home production as the bumbling crook Ali who turns an accomplice of ACP Jai Dixit (Abhishek Bachchan).
But Uday is undecided whether to be part of the cast. Buzz is that he may not feature in the action thriller as Dhoom did wonders but not exactly for his career.
Painfully aware
After his last B-Town outing Pyaar Impossible that had Priyanka Chopra as co-star tanked, there was speculation that Uday would no longer act but turn writer/director.
Says a source, "He knows that no outside producer, director is willing to cast him as he did not click with the audience.
He is well aware that only his father Yash Chopra and brother Aditya Chopra can take the risk of making him a star in their projects. Except for Dhoom no other Yash Raj production worked for him."
No movement
Adds the source, "As a result he seriously toyed with the idea of turning filmmaker.
There was speculation that he would make his debut as a writer-director with a Yash Raj film but even over a year after Pyaar Impossible (which was based on his script) nothing has moved ahead."
Uday's spokesperson however maintains, "It is too early to talk about Dhoom 3. The film is just been announced and the details have to be worked upon.
Uday will be part of the project. As for his plans to direct, that will happen when the time is right."
