After much controversy, a film on socialist messiah Jayaprakash Narayan reported to be critical of former prime minister Indira Gandhi will be aired Saturday, parliament was informed Thursday.
In a written reply in the Lok Sabha, Information and Broadcasting Minister S. Jaipal Reddy said changes had been made in Prakash Jha's bio-pic on Narayan before it was given the green signal.
The film will be aired at 9.30 p.m. on Doordarshan.
Reddy said the changes, made after consultations between Doordarshan and the filmmaker, included the correction of a map of undivided India, editing of some audio bytes and the portrayal of physical torture in Lahore jail.
The film was not aired on Narayan's birth anniversary Oct 11 allegedly because it showed Indira Gandhi, the mother-in-law of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, in poor light.
Narayan had formed a front against Indira Gandhi's repressive emergency rule of 1975, during which she imprisoned scores of political opponents and imposed severe curbs on the media.
