Filmmaker Harry Baweja is busy shooting an Ajay Devgan-Sushmita Sen-Esha Deol starrer at breakneck
speed.
"You live by your last film and live with your current film. This film is my current obsession and it is the film
that is the closest to my heart," he told Bollywood Trade.
The film, which portrays Ajay in the role of a mentally challenged father who brings up a child on his own, is
in the final stages of completion and Baweja is looking at a January release for the film.
It will be the earliest film releasing from Baweja's banner from among the many projects that he is planning.
"It is the kind of film that I had always wanted to make from the time I first ventured into filmmaking after
coming to the city of dreams. Unfortunately, the audience was not ready for that kind of a cinema then. It
was termed as morning show cinema or art cinema," Baweja reminisces.
He chose the second best alternative - to plunge full-fledged into the world of commercial films and thereby
build a distinct reputation and standing for his banner. "I made the best of commercial films under my banner.
It took a long time no doubt, but the exercise paid off," he recalls.
Today after all these years, Baweja feels he is free to explore the kind of cinema he had always wanted to
make, with the audiences becoming more receptive to experimental subjects.
The fact that Ajay Devgan, who has been with him through the years, is part of the endeavour is all the more
encouraging.
"He is one actor with whom I have always shared a great rapport. No other actor could have done better
justice to the challenging character in the film than Ajay," he says.
Baweja has another film lined up for release, the John-Priyanka starrer "Tera Yeh Karm", a romantic thriller,
which he describes as a stylised film with thrills and emotions.
The big one from his banner, however, is the film that will be his son Harman's launching pad, "Love
Story-2005-2050" opposite Kareena. Baweja will be shortly confirming an international team of technicians from Hollywood for
the sci-fi futuristic film.
"It will have the kind of special effects never witnessed in a Hindi film before. I wanted to start the film in
August, but now I'll be officially launching it in January 2005," he says.
There is also a Sunny Deol- starrer that he plans to announce and start shooting early next year. "Besides
this, there are also four other scripts already approved and ready to take off at the appropriate time," he
reveals matter-of-factly.
With so many productions already on the floor and others due to take off, isn't it a tough challenge trying to
do justice to all of them?
"Not in the least, because every project is planned six months before it actually goes on the floor. If I am not
convinced about the feasibility of the project, its cast and its budget, I don't go ahead with it. It is important to
safeguard the interests of your banner if you have to keep the success ratio going," he quips with a
smile.
