Trust Ram Gopal Varma to stray from the tried and tested. For A Love Story, the maverick director has handpicked five students from a local visual media school to shoot the film, instead of going with a qualified cinematographer.

The quintet -- Sapan Narula, Zaryan Patel, Harshraj Shroff, Christy Phillips and Ravichandran -- have received training even before shooting begins.
The school's academic director C B Arun Kumar notes, "It's a dream start for our students. To work under Ramu's guidance will be a great learning experience for them."
ALS will utilise DSLR cinematography. Portions of Ekta Kapoor's Ragini MMS have been similarly shot. "Our school specialises in digital cinematography technology. Ramu knows this. He has experimented with digital technology in Dongala Mutha and loved it. So, he decided to shoot Love Story using the same technique, " reveals Arun.
He adds, "DSLR cinematography involves use of regular steel cameras to shoot films. It speeds up the movie-making process without compromising on picture quality."
