Rohit Shetty, the director behind the popular Golmaal series is going to direct another Golmaal. However, don't ready yourself for Golmaal 4, because this is going to be a remake of the original Gol Maal, the one directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee in 1979.
Shetty is reportedly re-making one of Bollywood's finest comedies on the insistence of actor Ajay Devgn. Devgn who will produce the film, has not just found a director, but also has the cast ready.
Abhishek Bachchan will essay Amol Palekar's famous double role and Devgn will play Palekar's boss (played by Utpal Dutt in the original). Perhaps to avoid confusion, the movie title will be changed and will be called Bol Bachchan.
According to a source, Devgn chose Bachchan because of his fondness for him. "Ajay treats Abhishek like a younger brother. In fact, Ajay's links to the Bachchan family go back to the beginning of his career when Jaya Bachchan had prophesied that Ajay would become a major star, " he says.
Devgn feels that no movie has been able to successfully tap Bachchan's wicked sense of humour, and hopes that this film will, the source adds.
When contacted, Bachchan confirmed that a re-make was on the cards.
"Ajay was very keen that we do one, and Rohit has rewritten the script with such affection and so cleverly."
While Shetty created a lot of stir with people claiming that his Golmaal Returns was an unofficial remake of the 1973 comedy Aaj Ki Taaza Khabar, it appears that this time, he has ensured official rights have been acquired.
According to him, he had never seen Aaj Ki Taaza Khabar and thus Golmaal Returns couldn't have been inspired. However, this time let us hope he has seen the original, only so he realises he has big shoes to step into.
Can Abhishek pull off an Amol Palekar? In the 1979 film, Palekar acts as a young man, who pretends to play down his modernity to please his capricious boss Bhavani Shankar, played by Utpal Dutt
