Following in your father's footsteps and taking over his business is what conventional wisdom would demand, but a young crop of glam offsprings are ditching this tradition in favour of their mothers' meticulously- constructed empires.

You name it and you have it. Right from yesteryear actress Sharmila Tagore's son and daughter Saif Ali Khan and Soha Ali Khan, designer Ritu Kumar's son Amrish Kumar, actress Lillete Dubey's daughters Neha and Ira, to designer Neeta Lulla's daughter Nishkathese, these kids have effortlessly slipped into their mother's shoes.

On Mother's Day, we trace such mother-child duo success stories.

Designer Reynu Taandon's daughter Nikita Tanndon has been working with her for the past six years under the label Mynah, which is known for its chic western design.

According to Nikita, designing happened just by chance. "I always wanted to be associated with garments. Since my father is into exports, I joined him, " Nikita told.

"I travelled a lot to explore new ideas to expand our brand. And in the due course, I realised that I had developed an eye for designing. That is when I joined my mom, " she added.

The synergy between the two is dynamic and Reynu describes their professional relationship as "beautiful".

"Did she tell you that she feels I am a strict teacher? Well, I have to tell you that whatever she has learnt is under me, and when it comes to work, I am a tough master. But today when I look at her, I feel proud because she has worked hard to be here, " said Reynu.

For Samantha Kocchar, daughter of Blossam Kocchar -- founder of the Blossom Kochhar group of companies -- there was never a doubt in her mind that she will join her mother's business and take her company forward.

"I joined my mother at the age of 14... I started learning the art of make-up and hair styling, cutting and designing. Travelling with my mother taught me a lot as I joined international classes at an early age. I officially joined the business at the age of 18 and as they say, there has been no turning back, " she said.

So did the responsibilities weight too heavy on her young shoulders?

"Responsibility is something that is passed down to each person from his or her lineage. In my case too, I always knew I had to take my mother's name and company forward. The responsibility and work is what keeps me going. And since it's my passion, I never feel burdened because of it, " she added.

For Nilofer Hussain, daughter of Shahnaz Hussain, who is a pioneer in ayurvedic beauty, there was never a doubt to join her mother as she grew up with her work.

"I just grew up with this work... when I was in school and college, I was helping my mom. When I joined mom, we had a set target to increase profits, " she says.

"I am very close to my mom. Though we are little different in nature, I think this balances our relationship at work. It's good when two people of opposite nature work together as opposite attracts. But I am very close to her and she is my best friend, " said Nilofer.

Being part of any business does bring in its share of arguments, so does this affect their relationship in any way?

"We disagree sometime, but I leave the final decision to my mother, " she said.
