Ekta's "Ragini MMS" is inspired by a real life incident involving a 22-year-old Delhi girl Deepika, who's boyfriend secretly filmed both of them while they made love.
Starring newcomers Raj Kumar Yadav and Kainaz Motivala, who play the couple, the film tracks the story of a young couple Ragini and Uday, who go out to spend a weekend at a friend's farmhouse on the outskirts of Mumbai. However, their weekend getaway turns ugly as they find themselves stuck in the house rigged with cameras that are meant to capture their intimate moments.
However, the cameras capture something that is beyond the realm of human understanding, something supernatural. Both Uday and Ragini are left at the mercy of the unexplainable paranormal force.
The film's makers have used a technique similar to the one used in Hollywood film "Paranormal Activity". The scenes of "Ragini MMS" are simultaneously shot by 24 cameras from various angles. Ekta says that the film will be the scariest till date.
Deepika, who was shown the script before shooting began, is adamant that if the film is not shown to her prior to its release, she will take legal action against the producer.
Ekta maintains that only 30 percent of "Ragini MMS", made under her banners Balaji Telefilms and ALT Entertainment, is based on Deepika's incident and the rest is pure fiction.
On the other hand, Tusshar's "Love U...Mr Kalakaar" is a simple romantic film about an artitst who falls for a management student, played by Amrita Rao, and there are no controversies attached to it.
Directed by S. Manasvi, this is Tusshar's first solo lead after 2007 film "Aggar: Passion Betrayal Terror".
As it happens, Sahil (Tusshar) is a happy-go-lucky artist who creates characters for animation shows, advertisements and the print media and mascots for corporate firms. He lives an easy life with no burdens, no boundaries, no pressures and no expectations. He is free to do anything he wants.
His life changes when he meets Ritu (Amrita), a free spirited and fun-loving girl.
He wants to marry Ritu, but her father Deshraj Diwan (Ram Kapoor) discourages this. He is not so happy with their alliance as he feels artists can never make good husbands as they take their decisions from the heart and don't look at life practically - and thus fail to deal with the manipulative world.
Deshraj says that he will allow Ritu to marry Sahil if he can prove he is worthy of his daughter.
If the siblings' rivalry was not enough, we have the intense Nana Patekar too looking for his share at the box office with "Shagird", which sees him playing a police officer once again.
Directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia, the film also stars Mohit Ahlawat, Anurag Kashyap and Rimi Sen. Set in Delhi, the fast-paced action thriller unfolds the nexus of policemen, politicians and the mafia.
Small-packets are often full of surprises and only the box office will be able to tell which movie will impress the audiences this weekend.
