Albeit vibrant Devdas on his back, Black is the colour Sanjay Leela Bhasali likes the most these days. The gifted director had been cherishing the dream of masking the film on the physically challenged people and Black exactly gave him that opportunity.
"After making Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Devdas , I thought I needed to move beyond romantic songs and alcoholics. That's when I thought of making Black . However, my film is not depressing. My film is lyrical without using any songs," he asserts.
Bhansali, who had to face a lot of criticism for his lavish Devdas, doesn't mind paying back some of it.
Ask him anything about his good friend Rituparno Ghosh's work (who panned his magnum opus) and he retorts, "I wanted to watch what he is doing. I watched his ‘Chokher Bali' first day first show. I'll also watch
Raincoat. But most of the times, Rituparno's films don't work for me. I find them boring."
We hope Rituparno is listening to his 'close' friend.
