Bengali film director Rituparno Ghosh has approached Subhash Ghai to remake his 1980 film Karz starring Rishi Kapoor and Simi Garewal.
The Last Lear director approached Ghai with the idea of remaking the film in Bengali, but also came up with an interesting suggestion. Ritu suggested he plays the female role of Simi in the remake.
A source reveals, "Subhash Ghai was stumped when he heard Ritu's suggestion, his first reaction was of surprise. But the director managed to convince the Showman some how.
This isn't the first time he would be attempting to play another gender. He has portrayed a cross-dressing gay character in Just Another Love Story with Raima Sen."
When contacted Ghai confirms that he's been approached with this idea and says, "Ritu is a great director and it would be interesting to watch him in a female role under his own direction of Karz.
He has already hit the bullseye in playing a female in his Bengali film.
But I am still contemplating on his proposal as at the moment I am busy releasing his directorial classic Kashmakash on May 20."
