The twinkling eyes, the extremely expressive face and her voice bubbling with a youthful vigour are enough to impress even hardened filmmakers.
And that is precisely what Shalini appears to have done, with an important role against Arya Babbar in T-Series' Ready, a parallel lead in the popular TV serial, Ganga Ki Dheej on Sahara and another film Chhoo Ley Aasman in the pipeline.
This is in addition to her major roles earlier, in the TV serial Naaginn on Zee TV, the lead role in Sab TV's Gupshup Coffee Shop and numerous TV ads including that of medical abortion pills, Facia soap, Norton anti- virus, HDFC Bank, Maggi Noodles, Newscorp, ADD Achiever gel pen, Rajshree Pan Masala etc.
And that's not all. The versatile actor has also done a stint as an anchor on the TV channel, Zoom and played the female lead in the legendary Jagjit Singh's music video, Inteha Ishq Ki, from his latest album, Inteha.
In fact, the expression, "full of beans" is what aptly describes this Punjabi stunner from Mumbai. So it is hardly surprising when a single question put to her draws a torrent of breathless lines in the form of an answer.
The entry of this IT Graduate in showbiz was as rapid as her answers. But Shalini's dream of making it big under the arc lights took seed in her childhood itself. The insatiable desire to face the camera was born when, in school, she came across an ad featuring a good-looking model.
"There was something about that ad that made me decide that this is what I want to do," Shalini says. But unlike several other child-like dreams, Shalini chose to nurture it into an ambition. And the result was a slew of ad films when she was still in college.
It was while during this time that she heard of another audition being conducted. It was only when Shalini reached there that she realized it wasn't for an ad film, but for the Radio Jockey for Big 92.7 FM.
"Although I was obviously surprised, I just did it for a lark. And the next thing I knew was that I was selected!" Shalini exclaims.
But the tryst with the top radio channel lasted just for a year and a half. And the irrepressible go-getter was once again yearning to face the camera as an actor.
"I was so determined to make it as an actor that I left the job at the radio channel and was even prepared to restart my struggle to become an actor," she recalls.
Fortunately she didn't have to. Shalini got the offer from Sab TV just two days after her resignation.
Obviously, the beauty hopes that Ready, starring Salman Khan, will catapult her close to the big league in Bollywood. And so do her numerous fans, who follow the popular TV serial Ganga Ki Dheej, smitten by the "gorgeous ‘Anjali' (the name of the character which she plays), with those expressive eyes."
